ABBOTT HEALTH & FITNESS EXPO VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITES
Join the excitement of the Abbott Health & Fitness Expo on Thursday, October 8 – Saturday, October 10 at McCormick Place. The Expo is the first stop for participants, bringing months of planning and preparation to life for participants and their friends and family from around the world. Expo volunteers support the following areas: information booth/greeters, solutions, ID & ticket check, packet distribution, bag & t-shirt distribution or general expo participant support areas.
All volunteers are required to register online individually by 11:59 p.m. (U.S. Central Time) on Friday, October 2, 2026 or they will not be allowed to volunteer for the event
Bag & t-shirt distribution
Volunteers will welcome participants and distribute participant bags and t-shirts. Individuals with strong customer service skills are encouraged to volunteer for this role. Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older.
General expo participant support
Volunteers will support participants in various areas at the Abbott Health & Fitness Expo including the Photo Activations Stations, Oversize Baggage Storage, distributing Parking Validation and other areas as assigned. Exact assignment and training will be provided upon check in. Volunteers must be 14 years or age or older.
ID & ticket check
Volunteers will verify participant IDs, scan the QR code on the participant’s mobile devices or confirmation tickets and then direct them to the appropriate packet pick-up counter. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
Info booth/greeters
Meet people from around the world! Volunteers will act as a resource for participants from over 100 different countries and will greet and direct them as they arrive. Familiarity with the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Expo and local transportation options is preferred, and a guidebook will be provided for reference. Volunteers with foreign language skills are encouraged. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
Packet distribution
Volunteers will welcome participants, verify their bib tag and confirm their participant information (displayed on an iPad) before releasing the packet to them. Individuals who are organized and have good customer service skills are encouraged to volunteer for this role. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
Solutions
Volunteers will support the packet pick-up process at the Expo by confirming participant registrations, looking up individuals, verifying information and providing basic event information. Individuals who have good customer service skills and are comfortable with using a computer are encouraged to volunteer for this role. Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older.
Travel and parking
Discounted parking will be available to registered Abbott Health & Fitness Expo volunteers. Detailed parking information will be included in your detailed race week confirmation email. In the meantime, visit the Expo transportation page to start planning your trip to the Health & Fitness Expo.
Volunteer Rewards
All volunteers will receive volunteer reward points when they check in to volunteer. Reward Points can be redeemed for an array of items including Bank of America Chicago Distance Series branded merchandise, Nike running shoes and a complimentary entry to the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
