Emmanuel Mutai of Kenya and Liliya Shobukhova of Russia have been crowned champions of the 2010-2011 World Marathon Majors series, and both were presented $500,000 USD for their respective accomplishments today in New York City.

BANK OF AMERICA CHICAGO MARATHON ON NBC CHICAGO, CHICAGO NONSTOP AND NBCCHICAGO.COM
The 34th Annual Bank of America Chicago Marathon returns Sunday, October 9, 2011 with NBC 5 Chicago beginning coverage on air and online at 7 am.
NBC 5 Chicago’s coverage will be led by sports reporters Mike Adamle and Paula Faris, along with Ed Eyestone, a two-time Olympic marathoner and long distance runner. All three will provide color commentary and analysis as more than 45,000 runners compete along the 26.2-mile course, which begins and ends in Grant Park and winds through 29 Chicago neighborhoods. More than one million spectators are expected to line the course.

RELAY PARTICIPANTS RUN ALONGSIDE U.S. WOMEN SOCCER STARS HOPE SOLO, ABBY WAMBACH AND ALEX MORGAN AS PART OF “LET’S RUN TOGETHER” CHARITY RELAY AT THE BANK OF AMERICA CHICAGO MARATHON

On October 9, thirteen relay participants, including Chicago-area residents Danielle Maglinte, Hailey Danisewicz, Susan Taylor, Scott Herrick, Chad Doellinger, Pat Arbor and Joe Jasnosz; Orlando resident Christie Galvin; Charlotte-area residents Dori Luke and James Tiller; New York resident Dylan Kwait; San Diego resident Kimberly Mueller; and Atlanta resident Wayne Drash; will participate in a unique charity relay during the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, running alongside relay team captains and U.S. soccer stars Hope Solo, Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan. These participants were chosen from hundreds of runner applications for Bank of America’s new “Let’s Run Together” Charity Relay program detailing how their participation would help make opportunity possible in their local communities with a $5,000 charitable contribution to the following charities from Bank of America: American Heart Association, Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association, UPS For DownS, The Greater Chicago Food Depository, Susan G. Komen For The Cure, Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, Kendall County Triad, American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Girls on the Run, Inc., Children’s Miracle Network, Chicago Diabetes Project, Got Your Back Network Memorial / Frogman 238 Memorial Fund, and American Cancer Society.

WORLD MARATHON MAJORS ESTABLISHES POSITION ON WORLD RECORDS WITH WOMEN’S ROAD RUNNING PERFORMANCES
At the 2011 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, the IAAF Congress passed a motion to change the standard by which women athletes achieve world record performances in road races. By the new criterion, only times achieved in all‐women competitions would be acknowledged for world record purposes, and performances achieved in mixed conditions would now be referred to only as “world best”.

EAST AFRICAN CONTINGENT PLANS TO PUSH THE PACE AT THE 2011 BANK OF AMERICA CHICAGO MARATHON
The Bank of America Chicago Marathon today announced several additions to its elite field that figure to spearhead the elite pack and push a potential world-record pace on October 9. On the men’s side, 2008 Bank of America Chicago Marathon champion Evans Cheruiyot is back to regain his title and will face off against fellow Kenyan Bernard Kipyego, the silver medalist at the 2009 IAAF World Half-Marathon Championships. They will be joined by sub 2:06 athletes Bazu Worku (2:05:25) and Getu Feleke (2:05:44) of Ethiopia.

LILIYA SHOBUKHOVA AIMING FOR FIRST-EVER THREE-PEAT AT 2011 BANK OF AMERICA CHICAGO MARATHON
The Bank of America Chicago Marathon today announced that two-time defending champion Liliya Shobukhova will return to compete for her third straight victory, a feat that has never before been accomplished at Chicago’s fall classic. The Russian Olympian and national record-holder has dominated the flat and fast streets of Chicago for the past two years, crushing the competition with a devastating kick in 2009, and using patient, measured tactics to outlast her competition in 2010. A victory at the 34th annual Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 9 would put Shobukhova in a class by herself as owner of three consecutive titles.

U.S. OLYMPIAN RYAN HALL TO COMPETE IN 2011 BANK OF AMERICA CHICAGO MARATHON AGAINST FELLOW SUB 2:05 MARATHONER ON FAST COURSE
The Bank of America Chicago Marathon today announced U.S. Olympian Ryan Hall will compete inthe 34th annual race on October 9, setting up a rematch against fellow sub 2:05 performer Moses Mosop of Kenya. Hall, who recorded a personal best 2:04:58 at the Boston Marathon in April, finishing behind Mosop’s 2:03:06, will match strides against the world’s best runners in Chicago as he begins his run up to the 2012 Olympic Games Marathon. The Mammoth Lakes, Calif., resident and recognized philanthropist also announced that he will donate any prize money earned in Chicago to his non-profit organization, The Hall Steps Foundation, to support anti-poverty programs in Kenya.

Bank of America today announced it has reached an agreement with U.S. Soccer stars Abby Wambach, Hope Solo and Alex Morgan to serve as spokespeople for a unique charitable program that will play an integral role in the 2011 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The program, to be introduced this summer and culminate on race day, October 9, will make opportunity possible for nonprofit organizations in Chicago and across the United States, helping advance their efforts to improving lives and revitalizing communities. The agreement is the first involving all three players, who became household names as a result of their outstanding performances on the world soccer stage over the last month.

DEBUT MARATHON RECORD HOLDER MOSES MOSOP EYES 2011 BANK OF AMERICA CHICAGO MARATHON ENCORE PERFORMANCE
Kenya’s Moses Mosop, the debut marathon record holder, today announced he will run the 2011 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, aiming to improve upon his historic first marathon. Mosop’s time of 2:03:06 at the 2011 Boston Marathon is the fastest marathon ever run by a first-timer and the second fastest marathon in history. After taking a course tour in Chicago with Executive Race Director Carey Pinkowski, Mosop believes he can capitalize on Chicago’s flat and fast route and energetic neighborhoods to run even faster in his second attempt at the marathon distance on October 9.

BANK OF AMERICA HONORS ILLINOIS NATIVE WITH INAUGURAL MAYOR RICHARD M. DALEY AND MAGGIE DALEY AWARD
Bank of America today recognized Carl Allegretti, from Frankfort, Ill., as the first recipient of the Mayor Richard M. Daley and Maggie Daley Award. The award was established in 2010 to honor the Bank of America Chicago Marathon participant who raised the most funds for charity through the annual world-class endurance event. Allegretti raised more than $81,000 for Children’s Memorial Hospital, an institution that has had profound impact on his own family. Maggie Daley joined Bank of America Illinois Market President Tim Maloney in presenting the award to Allegretti at today’s Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K Health & Fitness Expo.

NEW RECORDS SET AT THE BANK OF AMERICA CHICAGO MARATHON
Registration for the 2011 Bank of America Chicago Marathon closed in record time today as the maximum 45,000 participants signed up in 31 days for the 34th annual event. With a 26.2-mile course that is world renowned for its speed, the rate of registration was an “event record” for Chicago and a fitting prelude to a race where thousands of participants will be striving to achieve their own personal records. Today, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon also announced that a record $12 million was raised by runners during the 2010 event for local, national and global charitable causes.
