Key Volunteer Application

Finish-CaptainThank you for showing interest in becoming a Key Volunteer for the 2013 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. We appreciate your commitment to helping us make this year’s race a success. Key Volunteers are individuals that help fulfill leadership and management roles on event weekend. Key Volunteer applicants must have previous volunteer experience with the Chicago Marathon or another large road-racing event. Enthusiastic volunteers who would like to take on a higher level of involvement with the event are a great fit for this opportunity.

Key Volunteers will be assigned to either Grant Park or the Bank of America Chicago Marathon Health & Fitness Expo. For each, you must have the following availability:

Grant Park

  • Saturday, September 28: Event Production Meeting (time TBD)
  • Saturday, October 12: One-hour Grant Park walkthrough (time TBD)
  • Sunday, October 13: All day

Health & Fitness Expo at McCormick Place

  • Saturday, September 28: Event Production Meeting (time TBD)
  • Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12 from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. (exact time TBD)

Please note the following important dates:

  • Monday, July 29: Launch of the Key Volunteer application process
  • Late August: Bank of America Chicago Marathon Volunteer Team will contact applicants and begin to provide assignments
  • August and September: Key Volunteers may be invited to respective area planning meetings
  • Saturday, September 28: Key Volunteers are required to attend the Event Production Meeting at De La Salle Institute
  • Friday, October 11 – Saturday, October 12: Bank of America Chicago Marathon Health & Fitness Expo at McCormick Place
  • Saturday, October 12: Grant Park walkthroughs and set-up
  • Sunday, October 13: Race day

Please keep in mind that the number of applicants could exceed the number of Key Volunteer roles available. Returning Key Volunteers will be assigned first. New applicants will then be assigned based on event needs, qualifications, experience and availability.

New Applicants

New applicants are welcome, and we are always eager to add new volunteers to the team. However, please keep in mind the following points:

Make sure to view our Key Volunteer Applicant Information before applying so that you can indicate your assignment preferences at the point of application.

As a new applicant, please be prepared for a longer wait time for our response to your application. We will set up phone calls with all new applicants to further discuss their interest in the event and relevant experience.
